In A Pattern Language, there is a preference for small, special purpose places and organizations spread throughout the urban environment. One-size-fits-all is economical, but in the words of Bruce Sterling, "The economy is clearly insane. Even its champions are terrified by it now." The Node fits the view of a special purpose space.
